Privacy Policy

Last updated: March 4, 2026

1. Introduction

Currio ("we", "our", "the App") is a currency converter app for iOS. We are committed to protecting your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains what data we collect, how we use it, and your rights.

2. Core Principle: Privacy by Design

  • No user account or registration required
  • No analytics, crash reporting, or user profiling
  • All user settings and preferences are stored locally on your device
  • No data is sent to our own servers — we do not operate any backend

3. Data Stored Locally on Your Device

The following data is stored exclusively on your device and is never transmitted to our servers:

  • Selected currencies, favorites, and sort order
  • Last entered conversion amounts
  • App settings (appearance, language, decimal places, sounds, haptics)
  • Cached exchange rates for offline use
  • Widget configurations
  • Chart preferences (selected currency pairs)

This data is stored using Apple's standard on-device storage (UserDefaults, SwiftData).

4. iCloud Sync & Backup (Optional)

If you enable iCloud Sync in the App settings (disabled by default), the following data is synced across your Apple devices via Apple CloudKit:

  • App settings (appearance, language, decimal places, selected currencies, display options)
  • Your device name (for multi-device identification within your iCloud account)
  • A sync timestamp

This data is stored in your private iCloud container and is only accessible to your Apple ID. We have no access to your iCloud data.

Additionally, you may enable iCloud Backup (also disabled by default), which stores a JSON backup of your settings in your iCloud Drive. Automatic backups occur every 24 hours when enabled. You can manually create, restore, or delete backups in the App settings.

No exchange rates, financial data, or personal information is synced or backed up.

5. Exchange Rate Data

The App fetches current exchange rates from third-party API providers via HTTPS. These requests contain:

  • The requested currency pairs (e.g., USD, EUR)
  • Date ranges (for historical charts)
  • An API key for authentication
  • Your device's IP address (standard for any internet connection)

No personal identifiers, device IDs, or user data are sent with these requests.

6. Location Services (Optional)

The App offers an optional feature to automatically detect your local currency based on your location (Pro feature, disabled by default). When enabled:

  • The App requests "When In Use" location permission via iOS
  • A single location fix is obtained at approximate accuracy (kilometer-level)
  • Reverse geocoding is performed locally on your device to determine the country
  • The detected country is mapped to a currency code (e.g., Switzerland → CHF)
  • The country and currency codes are cached locally for 5 minutes

Your location is never sent to any server or third party. All processing occurs entirely on your device. You can revoke location permission at any time in iOS Settings → Privacy & Security → Location Services.

7. Third-Party Services

7.1 RevenueCat (Subscription Management)

We use RevenueCat (https://www.revenuecat.com) to manage Currio+ subscriptions. RevenueCat receives:

  • Apple's Identifier for Vendor (IDFV) — a unique identifier specific to our app on your device, not shared across apps
  • Purchase and subscription status via Apple's StoreKit

RevenueCat does not receive your name, email, or other personal data from us. The IDFV is reset if you delete all apps from the same developer. For more information, see RevenueCat's Privacy Policy.

7.2 Google AdMob (Advertising)

The free version of Currio displays banner ads through Google AdMob (https://admob.google.com). Google AdMob may collect:

  • Advertising Identifier (IDFA), only if you grant permission via Apple's App Tracking Transparency prompt
  • IP address
  • General device information (model, OS version, screen size)
  • Ad interaction data (impressions, taps)

If you deny tracking permission (via Apple's ATT prompt), AdMob will only display contextual, non-personalized ads with limited data collection.

Currio+ subscribers do not see ads. AdMob is completely deactivated for Pro users.

For more information, see Google's Privacy Policy.

7.3 SKAdNetwork (App Install Attribution)

Currio participates in Apple's SKAdNetwork, a privacy-preserving framework for measuring ad campaign effectiveness. SKAdNetwork does not track individual users and does not share personal data. It is managed entirely by Apple.

7.4 Apple (App Store, StoreKit & iCloud)

Purchases, subscriptions, and iCloud services are processed by Apple and are subject to Apple's Privacy Policy.

8. App Tracking Transparency (ATT)

Currio respects Apple's App Tracking Transparency framework. On first launch, you will be asked whether to allow tracking for ad personalization. If you choose "Ask App Not to Track", no cross-app tracking will occur and only contextual ads will be shown. This setting can be changed at any time in iOS Settings → Privacy & Security → Tracking.

9. Data Sharing

We do not sell, rent, or share any personal data with third parties. The only data leaving your device is:

  • Exchange rate API requests (currency pairs, dates, IP address)
  • AdMob ad requests (see section 7.2, free version only)
  • RevenueCat subscription verification (IDFV only, see section 7.1)
  • iCloud sync data (to your private iCloud account, if enabled, see section 4)

10. Widgets

Currio offers iOS Home Screen widgets that display currency conversions. Widget data (converted amounts, currency codes, exchange rates, display settings) is shared between the main app and the widget extension via an App Group container on your device. This data never leaves your device.

11. Children's Privacy

Currio does not knowingly collect data from children under 13. The App does not require any personal information to function.

12. Data Retention

We do not operate servers and do not collect personal data. There is no data to retain on our end. Local data on your device can be removed by deleting the App. iCloud data can be managed via iOS Settings → [Your Name] → iCloud → Manage Storage.

13. Your Rights

Since we do not collect or process personal data on our servers, there is no personal data to access, correct, or delete on our end. For data processed by third-party services:

You can delete all local data by uninstalling the App. You can manage iCloud data in your Apple ID settings.

14. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. The latest version will always be available at https://currioapp.com/privacy.
